Cuba, formeel de Republiek Cuba (Spaans: República de Cuba),
is een land in het Caribisch Gebied, bestaande uit de eilanden Cuba en Isla de la Juventud, plus een groot aantal zeer kleine eilandjes daaromheen. Cuba wordt aan het noorden begrensd door de Golf van Mexico en de Atlantische Oceaan, in het oosten door de Windward Passage, in het zuiden door de Caribische Zee en in het westen door de Straat Yucatán.
Het land is officieel een socialistische republiek, die is opgedeeld in veertien provincies en één speciale gemeente (het eiland Isla de la Juventud). Cuba wordt sinds 1959 bestuurd door Fidel Castro. De hoofdstad van het land is Havana en de officiële taal is het Spaans.

Ernesto Rafael Guevara de la Serna (Rosario (Argentinië), 14 juni 1928 - La Higuera (Bolivia), 9 oktober 1967), beter bekend onder de naam Che Guevara, was een Argentijns marxistisch revolutionair en Cubaans guerrillaleider.
De bijnaam Che kreeg hij gedurende zijn verblijf in Guatemala. In Argentinië wordt de kreet "Che" gebruikt om iemands aandacht te trekken. In de rest van Latijns-Amerika wordt "Che" gebruikt als bijnaam voor iemand uit Argentinië.
Che Guevara was een lid van Fidel Castro's Revolutionaire Beweging van de 26e juli, die in 1959 in Cuba via een revolutie aan de macht kwam.
Na verscheidene posten in de nieuwe Cubaanse regering te hebben bekleed, verliet Guevara Cuba in 1966 om de revolutie in andere landen te verspreiden.
